The worldwide status of Bible translation (2010):

6,800+ - the number of languages spoken in the world today

2,000+  - the number of languages without any of the Bible, but with a possible need of a Bible translation to begin

About 340 million - the number of people who speak the 2,000 languages where translation projects have not yet begun

1,500+ - the number of translation programs where Wycliffe is currently at work

Nearly 75% - amount of the world’s remaining Bible translation needs that are located in the three areas of greatest need

1,211 -  the number of language communities which have access to the New Testament in their heart language

457 - the number of language communities which have access to the entire Bible in the language they understand best

6.5 billion+ - the population of the world

Although Bible translation is progressing at a more rapid rate today than ever before, an overwhelming amount of work has yet to be done.  Beginning next Sunday, we will take $1.00 offering for 4- weeks putting all the funds toward Bible translation.

The Bible and the stories it contains is the most powerful tool on earth to set people free from the bondage on sin!  It contains the very words of God that tell the story of a loving Savior who came to die so we might live!  EPC, we need to be a part of sharing His story with the indigenous and least-reached people groups!

So bring your offerings and gifts for missions but don’t forget your $1.00.  Let’s see how many verses we can translate for someone who has never heard the Gospel in their own language!  Our goal will be 100 verses but maybe we’ll exceed our goal-that would be something to shout about. www.theseedcompany.org

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12  NKJV

From Cathy McGaughey

GhanaOn January 16th, I’ll be hosting a missionary, Wendy Nyhus from Ghana in our home. She will be bringing Baba and Clement (father and toddler son) with her from Ghana for a heart surgery here in Jax at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. God literally has brought them to us through some mutual contacts that neither of us knew we had and then when the surgery was scheduled here in Jacksonville, we knew we had to help! Since hooking up with her, we have found that we have many connections that we did not even realize….such a God thing and we were and are both amazed! Just realize we don't know ANY of these people. God has totally connected all of us through my friend Amy in KC...from there, it is simply amazing.

When Wendy’s family found out that she was coming to the US, they decided that they would come to see her here in Jax. They don’t get to see her often as it is so expensive to travel to and from Africa. So of course, I told them they could all stay here in our home….and they are going to do just that. Baba and Clement will be with us a portion of the time, but they will be settling in at the Ronald McDonald House close to the hospital.

Clement’s surgery is scheduled for January 25th and he will be here for recovery for at least 5 weeks. This father is coming to get a life saving procedure done on his son but he is full of apprehension. They didn’t have birth certificates or passports. Wendy and Greg (the missionaries) have worked hard in the capital city of Ghana to get all their paperwork in order. They have been working on this since October.

Finally, it is done, they all have tickets and they are coming. The doctor that agreed to do the surgery for free is here in Jacksonville. I have no idea what all God has in store for them and for us…but I know GOD orchestrated the whole deal and we are a part. I’m hoping that you’ll help me with a couple of things to help their stay be the best possible.

First, we can pray. Clement is very weak so we are all concerned with how he will make the trip. Pray that he gains strength; they all stay well rested and healthy. Others of you are helping me with meals and items. Thank you so much for that support. Once we know a surgery schedule, I'll need people to sign up to go visit daily. I know many of you will want to make room in your schedule to do this....but more about this later.

When I told Wendy and her family that our church friends would help us…they were sincerely overcome. I don’t know these people personally…we have a mutual contact and that’s how God put us together - so for us to open our home, share our friends and love to them when we don’t even know each other it is very overwhelming and they can’t believe the hospitality! They are excited to meet you.

I'll be posting pictures of everyone as I get them. Thanks again for your prayers...NOW, let's get to praying!!  Love to all, Cathy

Updates 01/17/2011:

Dear EPC friends and Family:

Baba, Clement and Wendy all arrived safe and sound to Jacksonville this morning.  Clement rested the whole trip and Wendy and Baba are doing well too.  First Coast News is going to cover the story so watch tonight at 5:30pm, 6:00pm and possibly 5:30am tomorrow morning for pieces of the story.  It should be on the internet as well.

Monica Landeros did the interviews with us and she was very sensitive and kind to Baba and Clement.  The journey continues; and, again, thank you for your love and support that you are providing to this family.  Baba is excited to meet all of you in time.  Clement’s surgery is scheduled for January 25th.  Pray for his doctor who has graciously donated his time and skill to do this life saving surgery, Dr. Jose Ettedgui of Jacksonville.

More to come later….there are so many of us exercising our part in this whole ordeal.  Every persons gifts, kindnesses and generosity matters and on behalf of Wendy, Baba and Clement we say thank you and they already love you!

Have a great day, Cathy McGaughey, Missions/Special Projects
